2018 T4SD Forum Project Lab 1: EU Cities for Fair and Ethical Trade Award

This interactive session introduced the Award concept, values and objectives. The city of Ghent, the winner of the first Award, shared its approach to and initiatives on fair and ethical trade that helped the Belgian city secure the winning title in 2018. Following this overview, participants were split into working groups to help develop the outlines for Ghent’s development cooperation project (the Award prize) as well as identify areas of fair and ethical trade that cities should be recognized for.

The event addressed SDG11 and 12 by discussing tried-and-tested solutions of cities in support of sustainable production and consumption, highlighted during the first edition of the EU Cities for Fair and Ethical Trade Award.
The event took place on the side-lines of the 73rd Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) 2018, in New York City in the spirit of ‘taking local lessons-learned for global impact’.
The moderated panel discussion and interactive Q&A session with the audience were followed by a networking luncheon.
This event was co-hosted by the Delegation of the European Union to the UN and the International Trade Centre (ITC).

Award Application Launch Ceremony

The EU Cities for Fair and Ethical Trade Award was officially launched on 7 December 2017 during an event at the European Committee of the Regions. Following some context setting from representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Committee of the Regions and ITC, DG Trade and ITC presented the Award concept and launched the application period.
The EU Cities for Fair and Ethical Trade Award is an initiative of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade implemented by the International Trade Centre.
