SUSTAINABLE TRADE CHAMPIONS REPORT

The Sustainable Trade Champions good practice reports showcase inspiring and replicable practices by EU cities that help advance sustainable trade, consumption, and production.

Drawn exclusively from the applications to the two editions of the  ‘EU Cities for Fair and Ethical Trade Award’ (2019, 2021), the reports contain local and international stories of positive change for consumers locally and producers globally.

The publications clearly highlight the role that cities, as global trade and consumption centres, play in the achievement of SDG 12 on responsible consumption and production and other sustainable development goals. The reports can also help inspire all city stakeholders, including city officials, businesses, civil society organizations, and educational institutions to embark on their own path towards sustainable trade, consumption, and production.

The 2019 report was updated and extended in 2021 as a compilation of case stories gathered and synthesized from the applications to the two editions of the Award. All case stories from the 2019 remain in the 2021 update of this report. The 2021 version as such contains 48 case stories – examples of city best practice.

The report was created by the International Trade Centre (UN/WTO) and its Trade for Sustainable Development (T4SD) Programme.

The EU Cities for Fair and Ethical Trade Award is an initiative of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade implemented by the International Trade Centre.
